AI receptionist for salons: 5 options compared (2026)

Glownomics is Canadian software for appointment businesses that pairs a 24/7 AI receptionist with an included booking calendar and salon operations—bookings, technician turns, checkout, tips and payouts.

Salons choose between five different kinds of phone coverage: a human answering service, a general-purpose AI receptionist built for salons, a general AI receptionist built for many industries, a booking platform's own phone add-on, or plain voicemail. Here is what each one actually publishes, checked October 5, 2026.

OPTION 1

Glownomics: an AI receptionist with the calendar already attached.

How it behaves on a call

The Glownomics receptionist listens for the full request, asks one clarifying question at a time—service, preferred technician, day, time—then repeats the whole booking back and waits for a clear "yes" before writing anything to the calendar. It will not invent a service, price or opening it can't confirm, and it refuses payment-card or bank details on the call.

Booking texts and replies

Confirmed appointments receive a confirmation text and a reminder 24 hours before the visit. Eligible callers who hang up before booking can receive the booking link. Staff can read and reply to messages in the receptionist inbox. Texting must be ready; delivery is to North American mobile numbers and clients can opt out with STOP. Booking texts and receptionist replies share the allowance, and long messages can use more than one segment.

Setup and pricing

Set up free, add approved services and policies, and test before activating customer calls. Glownomics costs CA$99/month for 125 connected minutes and 500 texts, CA$198 for 300 minutes and 1,000 texts, or CA$297 for 500 minutes and 1,500 texts. Connected-minute overage is CA$0.69, CA$0.64 or CA$0.59 respectively. Booking texts and receptionist replies share the monthly text allowance; at the limit, booking texts pause until next month while emails still go. The receptionist includes its own calendar. Operations is optional.

Boundary that matters: Glownomics does not synchronize Square Appointments, Google Calendar or Wix bookings automatically until that connection passes setup review; until then, the included calendar is what the receptionist books into.
The Glownomics receptionist inbox for Aurora Nail & Beauty: a call in progress, recent calls tagged Confirmed or Answered a question, and one caller’s requested appointment open for review
The receptionist inbox: every call listed with its outcome, and a requested appointment awaiting a quick human check.
OPTION 2

AI answering with live-agent backup: Smith.ai.

Smith.ai separates AI-first and human-first services. Its AI Receptionist has a free plan with 25 calls per month, Pro from $150/month for 75 calls, and Enterprise from $500/month for 300 calls. It bills extra real calls by the call. AI scheduling and on-demand escalation to its live-agent network are published features. Compare the appropriate AI or human-first plan on Smith.ai’s pricing page.

For a salon, check the calendar connection and the tasks the AI or a live agent can actually complete. A general service may suit complex intake; it still needs your own service list, booking rules and escalation instructions.

Best for: an owner who wants AI answering with escalation to a live-agent network. If you want a person to answer first, compare Smith.ai’s separate human-first service and its current pricing.

OPTION 3

Salon-specific AI receptionists: Qlient and BookingBee.

Qlient

Qlient describes itself as "an AI receptionist for beauty salons & spas," answering calls and booking appointments around the clock with what it calls hyper-realistic voice technology. It publishes integrations with Meevo, Mindbody and Zenoti, plus call summaries, transcripts and recordings, and a handoff to human staff when needed. Qlient's site does not publish pricing; it collects signups through a waitlist instead.

BookingBee

BookingBee targets salons, spas and barbershops. Its monthly pricing is per outlet: Essentials $99 for up to 8 staff, Premier $299 for up to 16, and Elite $499 for unlimited staff. The page also displays annual-payment prices; compare the same payment term. It lists booking, call summaries and salon-software integration. Its plan table is based on outlets and staff limits, not Glownomics-style connected-minute allowances. Confirm the billing currency, setup fee and your exact connection with BookingBee.

Best for: a salon looking for a specialist voice receptionist with a supported connection to its current booking platform. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the exact appointment workflow before choosing.

OPTION 4

A general AI receptionist: Rosie.

Rosie’s Professional plan is $49/month with 250 minutes and can text an appointment link. Direct calendar booking and warm transfers are listed on Scale at $149/month with 1,000 minutes. Growth is $299/month with 2,000 minutes and more customization. English and Spanish are published caller languages. A website-texting add-on costs $50/month. Compare the tier that performs the booking task you need on Rosie’s pricing page.

Rosie lists salons among the many small-business types it serves—alongside home services, real estate, law firms and HVAC—but it is not built exclusively around salon workflows the way Qlient or BookingBee are.

Best for: an owner who starts with answering and sending booking links, then adds direct calendar booking on the Scale plan when needed.

OPTION 5

A booking platform's own phone feature: Mangomint Phone.

Mangomint Phone is a staff-operated calling and texting add-on at $70/month per line, in addition to salon software. It includes a shared client inbox, call history, recordings, transcripts and automated missed-call text follow-ups. Staff answer live calls; a business phone line is a different purchase from an AI answering service.

Best for: a salon already running its day-to-day on that platform that wants one number and inbox for calls, texts and chat, and is fine with staff—not AI—doing the answering.

THE BASELINE

Voicemail: what every option is measured against.

Voicemail costs nothing extra and needs no setup: a caller who reaches it can leave a message, and the salon calls back when someone is free. Its limits are the reason the other four categories exist—no live answer, no immediate booking, and a caller who hangs up rather than leaves a message is simply gone. It remains a reasonable choice for a very low call volume or a solo owner between chairs who checks messages within minutes.

HOW TO CHOOSE

Match the option to how your phone actually rings.

01

Mostly missed calls during a walk-in rush

An AI receptionist that can check live availability and book on the spot—Glownomics, Qlient, BookingBee or Rosie—recovers more of those calls than a line that only takes a message.

02

Callers who need real judgment, not just a booking

A human answering service like Smith.ai, or an AI option with a fast warm transfer, matters more when calls are complex or emotionally sensitive rather than a simple "book me Thursday."

03

Already committed to one salon platform

If your day-to-day already runs on Mangomint or another suite, its own phone add-on keeps everything in one inbox—though it won't answer or book on its own the way an AI receptionist will.

04

Testing the idea before paying anything

Glownomics lets you set up free and test the receptionist from your own phone before choosing a plan or going live; check whether a given vendor offers the same before you commit.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What salon owners ask when comparing phone coverage.

Is a salon-specific AI receptionist always better than a general one?

Not automatically. A salon-specific option like Qlient or BookingBee starts with salon vocabulary and named integrations to salon software, which can shorten setup. A general option like Rosie may cost less to start and still handle straightforward call-and-book scenarios once configured. The right fit depends on your budget and how much setup time you have.

Do any of these options take payment over the phone?

Glownomics refuses payment-card and bank details on the call and can point a caller to an approved secure payment step. Smith.ai’s separate human-first service publishes a payment-collection add-on at $1 per call, with supported processors including Square and PayPal. That is a human-service feature; it does not establish the same capability on an AI plan. Check the exact service and payment flow with each vendor.

What does "connected minutes" mean for AI receptionist pricing?

For Glownomics, connected minutes measure time connected to the caller, not time the number is available. Starter includes 125, Growth 300 and Scale 500, with the published per-minute overage. Rosie also publishes minute allowances. BookingBee publishes monthly outlet plans with staff limits; Smith.ai’s AI plans count calls. Compare those billing units separately.

Can I keep my current salon software and still add an AI receptionist?

Usually yes. Glownomics AI Receptionist works with its own included calendar independently of any Glownomics Operations subscription, and BookingBee and Qlient both publish integrations to outside salon platforms. Confirm the specific integration list on the vendor's site before assuming your software is supported.

Is a human answering service worth the higher per-call cost?

It depends on the task. Human-first coverage may suit unusual requests and situations requiring judgment; AI with live-agent escalation may suit routine calls with occasional handoff. Compare the current human-first quote with the AI plan’s call allowance and extra-call rate instead of assuming their starting prices cover the same work.

Why compare against voicemail at all?

Because it's the real alternative many salons are using today, not a straw man. Every paid option above is worth its cost only if it recovers more bookings than a caller leaving a message and waiting for a callback would.
