Nail salon software compared (2026)

Glownomics is Canadian software for appointment businesses that pairs a 24/7 AI receptionist with salon operations: bookings, technician turns, checkout, tips and payouts.

Square Appointments, Vagaro, Mangomint and Fresha each bundle payments with booking. Glownomics takes a different position: it works alongside Square rather than replacing it, and puts its depth into the parts a payment app doesn't cover—explainable technician turns and source-backed weekly payouts. Here is what each vendor actually publishes, as of September 2026.

HONEST FIRST

Glownomics works alongside Square. It is not a payment processor.

Square handles card approval, the customer-entered tip, refunds, processing fees and bank deposits. Glownomics builds the ticket, applies the salon's saved technician-rotation rules, and turns the confirmed Square payment and tip into a source-backed weekly payout record. If your salon doesn't use Square, or wants payments and booking from a single vendor, Square Appointments, Vagaro, Mangomint or Fresha bundle both in one product—with their own trade-offs below.

GLOWNOMICS

The operating record around Square, not instead of it.

Owner Free proves the daily record before committing: manual tickets, tips and wait-list records, basic team records, on a device-local workflow. Owner Pro (CA$49/month, up to 25 active accounts) adds public booking, group booking and waitlist recovery, configurable technician rotation, the Square Terminal Bridge with reconciliation, technician share and locked payout history, and email booking reminders with SMS available once activated. A guided Shadow Week lets a salon compare Glownomics with its current workflow before choosing a cutover date, and the workspace is available in English, French and Vietnamese.

Best for: a salon that already uses—or wants to keep using—Square for payment, and needs the turn, tip and payout layer Square itself doesn't provide.

SQUARE APPOINTMENTS

Payments-first, with booking built around it.

Square Appointments lists beauty businesses, including nail and hair salons, among its target industries. Published features include appointment reminders, an online booking website, QR-code booking, multi-location scheduling, class booking, Instagram integration, recurring appointments and waitlist management. Square's own pricing page lists a Free plan for solo professionals, a Plus plan for growing teams, a Premium plan for large salons with complex staff management, and custom Square Pro pricing for businesses processing over US$250,000 a year—exact monthly rates weren't shown on the pages reviewed, so check Square's current pricing directly.

Best for: a salon that wants one vendor for both payment processing and booking, and whose technician-pay process is simple enough not to need a dedicated payout workflow.

VAGARO

À la carte pricing by calendar.

Vagaro's published pricing is US$35/month for one bookable calendar, with each additional calendar US$10/month up to seven licenses; beyond seven, additional employees are added at no extra cost. A 30-day free trial is offered. Listed features include online booking, a calendar, Pay Later, the MySite booking-website builder, client forms, business reports, a branded mobile app and Vagaro Capital financing, plus POS hardware such as card readers and receipt printers. Multi-location businesses are directed to contact sales rather than a preset higher tier.

Best for: a salon that wants transparent, calendar-based pricing and is comfortable adding features à la carte rather than in a fixed bundle.

MANGOMINT

A broad suite, priced per location and per user.

Mangomint's own pricing page shows US$120/month per location plus US$10/month per user, with add-ons customers can choose: a Phone line for calls and texting at US$70/month, marketing tools starting at US$30/month, and payroll processing at US$50/month plus US$8 per worker. Its listed feature set is broad: scheduling, payments and POS, online booking, a mobile app, client management, memberships and packages, forms and charting, marketing automation, a virtual waiting room, retail and inventory, staff management, reporting, multi-location support and payroll.

Best for: a salon or spa that wants one platform to cover nearly everything, including payroll, and is comfortable with per-location and per-user pricing that grows with the team.

FRESHA

Subscription plus marketplace and processing fees.

Fresha's official pricing page lists an Individual plan at CA$29.95/month for a single calendar column, a Team plan at CA$19.95 per team member per month for multiple calendar columns, and custom Enterprise pricing for businesses with 20 or more team members. Marketplace bookings from a new client carry a one-time 20% commission (minimum CA$6); returning clients and clients who book through the salon's own link are fee-free. Payment processing is listed separately at 2.79% + CA$0.20 per online transaction, 2.29% + CA$0.20 in person, and 6.99% + CA$0.30 for Buy Now Pay Later. Published features include unlimited bookings, clients and locations on the calendar, integrated POS and payments, client 360 CRM, marketing automation, reputation management, access to Fresha's marketplace of 25 million-plus customers, and an AI Concierge.

Best for: a salon that wants marketplace discovery for new clients and is comfortable weighing the marketplace commission and processing fees against that reach.

THE OTHER OPTION

A dedicated turn-tracker app instead of a full platform.

Some nail salons skip a full software suite and run a single-purpose app just for the walk-in queue and rotation—Smart Turn Tracker is one example, listed as free to download with a 14-day free trial on its official App Store listing. Its published features include employee check-in and schedule management, an automatic turn-rotation system, service management, a real-time dashboard, custom turn tiles for different service types, multi-location support, and calling, texting and notifying staff from the app. It does not publish payment processing or payout-record features—it is scoped narrowly to the floor queue, which is exactly the gap Glownomics Turn Flow was built to close alongside the rest of the salon's operating record.

Best for: a salon that already has a payment and booking system it likes, and only wants to digitize the whiteboard.

HOW TO CHOOSE

Match the software to what's actually broken.

01

Payments already work; turns and payouts don't

If Square already handles your checkout fine but technicians argue about whose turn is next or how last week's payout was calculated, Glownomics adds that layer without touching your payment setup.

02

Starting from zero on everything

Square Appointments, Vagaro, Mangomint or Fresha each bundle booking and payments in one signup, which can be simpler for a brand-new single-location salon with no existing payment relationship.

03

The whiteboard is the only real problem

A dedicated turn-tracker app is the smallest possible fix if rotation is the one pain point and everything else already works.

04

Weekly payout disputes are the real cost

Look for source-backed payout history you can reopen with a reason rather than silently edit—Glownomics locks a weekly run and preserves the before-and-after when it's corrected.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What salon owners ask when comparing this software.

Does Glownomics replace Square?

No. Square remains responsible for card approval, the customer-entered tip, refunds, processing fees and bank deposits. Glownomics locks the ticket before checkout and, after Square confirms the result, connects it to the technician's share, tip and weekly payout record.

Which of these platforms include payroll?

Mangomint publishes a payroll-processing add-on at US$50/month plus US$8 per worker. Glownomics records technician-share rules, tips, adjustments and payout status, but the owner pays outside Glownomics and it does not move payroll funds or calculate statutory deductions—the same is true for Square Appointments, Vagaro and Fresha on the pages reviewed.

Is a single-purpose turn-tracker app enough on its own?

It can be, if payments and booking are already solved elsewhere and rotation is the only pain point. It won't give you a payout record connecting tips and technician shares to a locked weekly close—that's a separate workflow most turn-tracker apps don't attempt.

Why do Fresha's marketplace fees matter?

Fresha charges a one-time 20% commission (minimum CA$6) on a new client's first marketplace booking, on top of its monthly subscription and payment-processing rates. Weigh that against how much new-client discovery the marketplace actually brings your salon.

Can I try Glownomics before switching from my current software?

Yes. The public demo uses sample data, and selected salons can run a guided Shadow Week to compare Glownomics with their current workflow before choosing a cutover date—no need to migrate everything on day one.

Do any of these charge per location or per calendar?

Vagaro charges per bookable calendar (US$35 for the first, US$10 for each additional up to seven), and Mangomint charges per location plus per user. Glownomics Owner Pro is priced per salon workspace up to 25 active accounts, not per calendar.
